From 6-8-16 episode of The Rob Zicari Show LIVE 10-1pm M-F
What is the main difference between Democrats and Republicans? Democrats are a unified voice, no matter who is the president or what the issue is. Every politician, every news agency and every talk show host gets behind whatever policy, issue or who the candidate is. You will never turn on CNN and see Anderson Cooper deliver a message that is opposite of what Don Lemon is delivering.
Everybody falls in line. Nobody strays away from a Democratic position. But Republicans? Forget about it. They are so divided. I’m not just talking about candidates. On issues like immigration, gay marriage, trade and abortion, there are large chunks of the Republican electorate who are on opposite sides. Same thing with the conservative media. You have hardline anti-immigration radio hosts like Mark Levin, who is against sanctuary cities and illegals getting driver licenses, then you have Meghan McCain, who is all about immigration reform, a pathway to citizenship and is against deportation.
There are Republican pundits and political speakers who are on completely opposite sides of the spectrum. This doesn’t happen with Democrats. It’s one message and everybody tows the line. The whole point of having a political party is to share a common view. If you don’t agree with that view, you shouldn’t be in that party.
You will never turn on MSNBC and see Rachel Maddow doing a scathing expose on financial improprieties involving the Clinton Global Initiative. You’ll never see Maddow take one position on her show and then Lawrence O’Donnell take the exact opposite position on his show. It doesn’t happen.
But Fox News? Fox is supposed to be the one small pro-Republican spot in the media universe. I watched Sean Hannity and Megyn Kelly each spend about half of their shows on the Donald Trump/Judge Curiel controversy. Hannity talked about Curiel’s background with the La Raza Lawyers Association and the National Hispanic Bar Association, which called for a boycott of Trump businesses. Hannity was making the case that Judge Curiel might indeed be biased in the Trump University case.
Then you tune into Megyn Kelly and she is saying everything opposite of what Hannity was laying out. Saying Trump is a racist and La Raza and everything else didn’t matter. It’s all BS, Trump is a racist, good night.
This is why Republicans don’t win. Because they don’t stick together and stay on one message. There are different positions on abortion, different positions on immigration. Democrats stick to their platform and speak as one voice.
There needs to be a new breed of Republican who is more media savvy. Everything they do is old school. The old school ways aren’t going to get them elected. They need to take over the media and control the message. Mega-donors need to buy news outlets instead of funding obscure Senate races. It’s not about controlling the House or the Senate. It’s about controlling the media.
The only reason gay marriage became what it did is because the media created the acceptance of it. That’s why Hillary, Obama and everyone else who was against gay marriage started accepting it. Every TV program, every website, every newspaper article was pro-gay marriage. The country didn’t change. It wasn’t like everybody woke up one morning and said, “I love gay marriage.” Just like no one woke up and said, “I love dudes with boobs. They can share a bathroom with my 5-year-old daughter. No problem!” The media created this “awakening.”
The old school Republicans insist that having a Republican majority in Congress is the way to go, but they’ve had a majority for well over a year. That’s not the problem. These old-schoolers got into politics when there was just a newspaper and 30 minutes of nightly news. That’s what they built their political machine with.
Democrats took a page from the Nazis and figured out the best way to control people is to control the message. They had to control what they read, watched and listened to. So they set up TV stations, websites, etc. and flooded everyone with their agenda. While they are doing this, the old school Republican donors were giving money to politicians, thinking that once they were elected, the donors would have them in their pockets. Meanwhile, Democrats set up Google, Yahoo and Facebook with young liberals who put out their message. Hell, I read somewhere recently that the owners of Google were involved in the Hillary Clinton campaign. Google, the world’s biggest search engine. That’s power, not controlling some right-wing Tea Party nut job from some obscure district in Missouri.
Conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt is an old school 80s Republican. Hewitt recently signed on with MSNBC. Everything Hewitt has predicted about the GOP race has been wrong. Hugh Hewitt said the GOP should change its convention rules to get rid of Donald Trump.
“It’s like ignoring stage-four cancer. You can’t do it, you gotta go attack it,” Hewitt says. “And right now the Republican Party is facing — the plane is headed towards the mountain after the last 72 hours.”
“I wanna support the nominee of the party, but I think the party ought to change the nominee. Because we’re going to get killed with this nominee,” he added.
“I have never said that!” Hewitt exclaimed, claiming that he’s been neutral during the GOP primary election. “I waited until after the primary was over, I stayed Switzerland to the end, and in 72 hours, dovetailed to that.”
“They ought to get together and let the convention decide,” Hewitt stressed. “And if Donald Trump pulls over a makeover in the next 4 to 5 weeks, great, they can keep him. It would be better if he had done so 5 weeks ago.”
He added that if the rules don’t change so that the GOP can dump Trump, there needs to be a “personality transplant in Trump Tower.”
That’s Hugh Hewitt. You would never ever hear this from Rachel Maddow or Chris Matthews or Lawrence O’Donnell about a Democratic nominee. Never.
Hillary Clinton is our first female presidential nominee. She’s also the first nominee to be under investigation by the FBI. This is a little more serious than a Trump University lawsuit. If you add up all the scandals and questions and controversies surrounding the Clintons, you could make a very strong argument that Bernie Sanders should be the nominee.
Hugh Hewitt says Donald Trump should be replaced, even though he had more votes. You could make the same argument on the liberal side. But liberals won’t do that. That’s why they win. That’s why Democrats don’t care about House seats. As long as they have the White House and as long as they control the media, it doesn’t matter. No matter who controls Congress, whatever message they want to convey will be out there. Whatever bill they want passed will be passed.
Hugh Hewitt wants to dump the GOP nominee. Screw the voters. Dump Trump. Then you go to the Democrats and one by one they will defend Hillary Clinton. They will defend Bill Clinton. Let’s be real. There is no way every Democrat in office thinks that everything in Bill Clinton’s past is all made up by Republicans. You damn well know that there are Democrats who are disgusted by Bill Clinton, but they don’t say anything. They tow that line. You know they are disgusted that Hillary used her position in the State Department to curry favor with Clinton Foundation donors. But they tow the line. They bite their tongues and do what there are supposed to do.
This is why the Republican Party is doomed. Doomed.
