Melania Trump – It’s A Sabotage

From 7-19-16 episode of The Rob Zicari Show LIVE 10-1pm M-F

Melania Trump was set up. Her ‘plagiarized’ speech was sabotage. I’m not the only one who feels this way. Even James Carville agrees with me, that this was done on purpose to make her look bad because a lot of people in politics don’t like Donald Trump. Of course, they’ll take his money, but he’s always been an outsider in the political world.

Trump has mingled with politicians and other influential people, but at the end of the day, it’s all about money. Trump’s money and how much of it they could grab. If Trump didn’t have money, these politicians and influential people wouldn’t be friends with him.

Donald Trump did the dirty work for the Republican Party back in 2012, when he pressed the birther issue on Obama. Hillary Clinton was the first to question Obama’s birthplace and background in 2008, but the birther issue was something the GOP establishment didn’t want to get involved with, so they left it up to Trump to use it to help Mitt Romney.

Trump has toyed with the idea of running for president since the 80s. Many thought having a successful businessman run the country was a good idea, so they pressed him to enter the race in ’88. But a lot of politicians and political insiders thought he should have to pay his dues. Run for congress or governor, work his way up the political ladder like they all had to do. Trump declined, saying he wasn’t interested in running for president, but it was something he wouldn’t rule out in the future. He said if he ever did run for president, he didn’t plan to lose.

Fast forward to 2015. Donald Trump announces he is running for president. Everybody thought it was a joke. Not one person took him seriously. They all dismissed him. As Trump started to rise in the polls and other candidates dropped out, these people became angry.

This was supposed to be Jeb Bush’s time. The 2016 race was supposed to be Bush vs. Clinton again. That’s what the media wanted, that’s what the political establishment wanted. Trump comes along and upends their game plan. Trump spoiled their perfect scenario. Jeb Bush had both a father and a brother who were former presidents. Jeb was a governor. It was Jeb’s time.

Now here comes this reality show star. Forget about the fact that Trump was a very successful entrepreneur before Celebrity Apprentice came along. He’s a TV star, not a politician. Forget about the fact that he ran several successful hotel and casinos that fed a lot of people for a lot of years. When some of them went bad and a couple of vendors lost money when the hotels and casinos filed bankruptcy, now Trump’s a bad businessman. They dismiss the hundreds of pit bosses, bartenders, hotel maids, etc. who lived a good life when the hotels and casinos were thriving.

Donald Trump, this brash, straight-talking celebrity businessman, defeats Jeb Bush. Just clobbers the hell out of him. All of the people in politics and the media who had been doing it for years were astonished that he could get away with having a wife that had posed nude and he could call out the media without repercussions. Not only call them out, but get them to give him free publicity.

Look at all the professional political operatives who were denied employment because Trump didn’t have a staff of 900 like Hillary Clinton. Look at all the advertisement revenue that was lost because Trump didn’t have to do TV ads. Jeb Bush spent millions, so did Ted Cruz. Donald Trump was hated by everybody in the media because he didn’t do what other candidates have done, which is spread money around.

Running for president has always been about whose turn it was. It was Bob Dole’s turn in 1996, John McCain’s turn in 2008. It’s Hillary’s turn now. It was supposed to be Jeb Bush’s turn, but Donald Trump came along and turned everything upside down.

There are professional political operatives who will work for a campaign. That campaign fails, so they go and work for another campaign. They may hate the person who is running, but it’s business. This is what they do. It’s a paycheck. Somebody could be working on the Cruz campaign. For seven months, Trump is calling his guy ‘Lyin’ Ted.’ He’s getting upset. It’s a battle and at the end of it, Lyin’ Ted loses. Now this guy is out of a job. But he’s good at what he does, so someone from the Trump organization offers him a job. He takes it, even though he’s been engaged in a battle where Trump is calling his guy a lying scumbag. I gotta imagine that there is not a lot of love or loyalty for Trump. It’s a paycheck.

There are people within the Republican Party who are still so pissed off that Trump is the nominee. We saw some of them on the floor of the convention the first day. People like Senator Mike Lee, who is still angry that his boyfriend Ted Cruz didn’t get the nomination. It’s over, but they don’t want to admit it.

Here’s where we get into the sabotage. Melania Trump came out and gave a speech the first night. I thought she did a great job, especially considering she had never spoken in front of a large group and a national TV audience before. Plus, English isn’t her first language.  So she did good. People clapped. Donald Trump made a WWE-style entrance like The Undertaker and introduced her. Everybody agreed that she did a fine job.

Then it started. It started with the liberal websites. The night of the speech, nobody questioned what Melania was saying, they just said she did a good job. But then liberal websites started comparing parts of Melania’s speech to Michelle Obama’s in 2008. Then it all started to blow up. Somebody had slipped passages of Michelle Obama’s speech into Melania’s speech.

Think about this. Melania had told Matt Lauer previously that she had written most of the speech herself, but had gotten some help. We know that Melania had not gone through old videos of speeches by former first ladies and put in passages she liked. We know that she didn’t take part of Michelle Obama’s speech and insert it into hers. We know that didn’t happen.

Here’s what I think happened. I think the people who worked on this speech were either from other campaigns or are from the part of the establishment who are still so jealous that Trump has had the political success he’s had without paying his dues. So they’re working on the speech and they come across a copy of Michelle Obama’s speech from 2008, where she says:

And Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you’re going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don’t know them, and even if you don’t agree with them.

And Barack and I set out to build lives guided by these values, and pass them on to the next generation. Because we want our children — and all children in this nation — to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.

So this is what they write for Melania:

From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise, that you treat people with respect. They taught and showed me values and morals in their daily life.

That is a lesson I continue to pass along to our son, and we need to pass those lessons on to the many generations to follow. Because we want our children in this nation to know is the only limits to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.

The scriptwriters did this on purpose. They knew that Melania and Donald Trump wouldn’t realize that the lines were lifted from Michelle’s 2008 speech because they’re not political wonks. They also knew that Trump was too arrogant to admit that he got snookered, so he wouldn’t fire them. It was the ultimate political prank.

These are people who have worked on other campaigns. After Trump, they will go on to work for someone else. They are getting a hard time right now because they work for Trump, but they say hey, it’s a paycheck.

I mean honestly, what political speechwriter would lift passages from another speech and not think anyone would notice? This was planned from day one. They colluded with liberal websites like The Daily Beast to put out the story.

Look, Trump’s not firing anybody. Campaign chairman Paul Manafort has come out and denied the allegations of plagiarism. Trump’s not going to admit he got snookered. This was like an inside-the-Beltway hazing. That’s what it was. Whoever wrote the speech put in the Michelle Obama passages to make Melania Trump look bad. To make her and Trump look stupid. It was a set-up. It’s all anyone is talking about. They’re not talking about Rudy Giuliani’s epic speech, they’re talking about Melania Trump plagiarizing Michelle Obama.

Remember, there are Republicans who are already thinking ahead to 2020. They’ve resigned themselves to Hillary being president in 2016, so they don’t care if Trump wins this election. Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Tom Cotton and Paul Ryan are all going to run in 2020.

It was sabotage. Plain and simple. It was done on purpose, and it worked like a charm. Congratulations, speechwriters. Now on to the next paycheck.
