Is Jeb Bush stupid?
Jeb was speaking at an event last week in Amsterdam hosted by the Nexus Institute. You wanna talk about low energy? You wanna talk about being slow? He did an interview where he talked about Donald Trump’s Cinco de Mayo tweet. Jeb, you do know that Cinco de Mayo was May 5th? You speak Spanish, so I assume you do.
Forget low energy, this is like no energy. To respond to a tweet almost three weeks after the fact is beyond slow. People didn’t even know what the hell he was talking about. The Trump tweet was 16 news cycles ago.
Maybe it had something to do with Amsterdam. Was he there a long time? Maybe he visited the famous coffeeshops. Was he hanging out with Sargent Stadanko? What’s the deal, Jeb?
This is what Jeb said, almost a month after the fact:
“What Trump did, was so insensitive. First: not all Hispanics are Mexican. Secondly: not all Hispanics eat taco’s. Thirdly: showing your sensitivity by eating an American dish is the most insensitive thing you can do. Fourthly: to say this, next to all things he already said, is a further insult. It’s like eating a watermelon and saying: ‘I love African Americans’.”
I gotta disagree with Jeb here. True, not all Hispanics are Mexican, but all Mexicans are Hispanic. Not sure what point he was trying to make. Also, I live in California, which has the largest Latino population in the U.S. I have never, and I mean never, seen a Mexican turn down a taco. Also, there are a plethora of taco trucks scattered throughout Southern California and 99.9% of them are manned by Mexicans. Jeb’s wrong. Hispanic Latino Mexicans love tacos.
Also, since when is a taco bowl an American dish? Is he saying it’s an American dish because it was made in the Trump Tower Grill? That’s kinda bizarre. If I go to Casa Vega in Studio City, is my burrito not authentic? Is it not a Mexican dish because it was made in Studio City? Help me out here. I’m a little confused on this.
What the hell is Jeb talking about? He’s supposed to be the smart Bush. He’s the Bush that was given $100 million dollars to run for president and he got two points. This statement is a little silly. Not only that, it’s a little edgy:
“Fourthly: to say this, next to all things he already said, is a further insult. It’s like eating a watermelon and saying: ‘I love African Americans’.”
The only reason this isn’t getting a lot of play in the media is because it’s Jeb Bush. They’re not going to beat him up. Donald Trump did that for six months. Beat the hell out of him, just killed him. Jeb was supposed to be the one who Daddy Bush wanted to run for president, the intelligent Bush who would change the country forever and restore the tarnished Bush legacy. He took $100 million dollars and blew it. Jeb is a loser’s loser.
So the media isn’t piling on Jeb, but the watermelon comment itself was a racist statement. Black people and watermelon is an old school racist stereotype. It’s something you don’t see everyday. It’s an insult from the Al Jolson days. You can’t walk around and see black people eating watermelon, but you can see Mexican people eating tacos. You see Chinese people eating with chopsticks and you see Italians eating linguine and braciola, but you don’t see a black guy standing on the corner chowing down on a slice of watermelon.
Now if you’re talking ribs or barbecue, that’s something else entirely. Black people love their ribs and barbecue. So do a lot of other people, myself included. I do see a lot of black people smoking menthol cigarettes. I wouldn’t consider this an offensive stereotype. It’s a factual observation. But I’ve yet to see any of my black friends eating watermelon. I’ve seen them drink a 40 ounce with a Newport in their hand. That I’ve seen.
The watermelon thing is racist. Mexicans eating tacos is not. There are plenty of movies like Boyz in the Hood that show black culture where they go to a barbecue and eat ribs. I’ve never seen Ice Cube wolfing down a watermelon. It doesn’t happen. That’s a racist stereotype.
That’s Jeb Bush. Mr Looooooooow Energy. Responding to a month old tweet and saying Mexicans don’t eat tacos.
